Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the incumbent is in charge of achieving cost targets for Siemens VDO Automotive Inc. regarding direct material. The SME has to work internally in an international team environment, consisting of engineering, logistics, quality and strategic purchasing and externally with an international supply base to meet the company objectives. Due to the technical focus of this purchasing position, a technical and commercial background is required.

; K6 f% d1 r. x" FJOB DUTIES and POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Supports cross-functional teams to meet “design to cost” oriented product design by early involvement of preferred suppliers.
- a- s3 |: F2 i! V/ |4 G0 o* Performs market surveys and identifies new and future suppliers due to changing technologies.
! s$ o$ X' k) g7 v/ J$ e* Performs technical benchmark studies to identify most cost efficient solutions
* p( v0 U/ T5 _! W+ i' v* Manages non-price considerations such as warranties, life cycle costs, currency risk, logistics,supplier responsiveness and technical capabilities.
* Initiates product related supplier days regarding concept competition.
9 q6 g- u; E2 x3 T" }/ O& z* Documentation and reporting of the project status.
7 Y) D7 o8 L8 i9 t, e* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, attending trade shows, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

* Knowledgeable in their duties and responsibilities in accordance with Health and safety legislation in Ontario.
! P: C* h% d. ~" b2 Z' n* Knowledgeable in the company\'s duties and responsibilities in accordance with Environmental legislation in Ontario and Canada.

EXPERIENCE and EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

* University Degree in Mechanical Engineering. BBA/MBA is an asset.
* Minimum 18 months experience in automotive field specializing in the areas of purchasing in advanced purchasing, manufacturing, design or industrial engineering.
* Understanding of Quality Systems is mandatory.

* Familiar with product costing and value analysis.

* Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of German and Spanish language is an asset.

* Willingness and ability to travel as required to accomplish the job.
