To mark the 30th anniversary of the BMW M5, BMW M engineers and designers have developed an exclusive special model of the current model generation which offers outstanding performance figures.
A maximum of just 300 of the BMW M5 "30 Jahre M5" were produced and of those 300 only 20 were available for sale in Canada. The special model marks a high point in the model's history to date and has the potential to become a collector's item. Recently at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, 1 of the 29 models available for the United States market sold for $700,000 (USD).
With 600HP and 516 ft. lbs of torque the anniversary model "30 Jahre M5" is the most powerful serial production automobile ever to be built by BMW as well as being the most powerful automobile ever in the brand's model history. It completes the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
For tangible enhancement of its handling properties, the special model features the Competition Package and comprises modified suspension settings with a tighter spring/damper set-up and the suspension lowered by ten millimeters. The Active M Differential of the rear axle differential has a specific control set-up to improve traction. Meanwhile the steering with M-specific Servotronic function features a more direct control map. In addition, the M Dynamic Mode of the Dynamic Stability Control DSC is even more intensely geared towards sporty handling properties.
